Upon arriving in Doolin harbour, you will board Bill O’Brien’s (The Doolin Ferry Company) magnificent luxury new ferry where you will get an up close and bird’s eye view of the Cliffs of Moher, one of Ireland’s 7 wonders, while making your way to the beautiful Island of Inis Oirr.
The Cliffs of Moher (Aillte an Mhothair) are one of Ireland’s most popular visitor attractions. However until you see them from the ferry, you haven’t really seen them at all. These amazing sea cliffs are named from the ancient Gaelic word ‘Mhothair’ (Moher) which means ruined fort. You will see some amazing sights from the water, such as O’Briens Tower, The Great Sea Stack (Irelands largest sea bird colony), Sea Cave from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and views of the Aran Islands, The Burren and Galway Bay. You may even spot some puffins, dolphins, seals or basking sharks
We then make our way to Inis Oirr (Inisheer) which is the smallest of the three Aran Islands. It is also known as Craggy Island in Father Ted! The size of the Island is about 3 km by 2 km and there are about 300 people living here today. We can’t possibly say enough about this charming place, it is very special and happens to be one of our favourites! This Island truly has something for everyone. There are many ways to travel around the island, examples being The Wanderly Wagon Tour, Pony Trap Tour and Bike Hire to name a few.
We will make our way back to Doolin where we will make a stop for lunch/dinner to McGanns Pub and Restaurant where they serve the most delicious Irish cuisine. Then it is onto The Burren. This limestone wonder was formed over 270 million years ago. The Burren is renowned for its remarkable assemblage of plants and animals and over 70% of Ireland’s species of flowers are found here. You will also get to ramble around this incredible rocky “Burren” lunar like landscape where you can catch the sight of history carved by nature, enriched by mankind and preserved by time.
As we make our journey back to Dublin along the coastline you will witness even more stunning scenery along the wild atlantic way, making this trip one of the most memorable trips in Ireland!
